The policy is aimed at stopping illegal immigration and has led to the prosecution of more than 2,000 illegal border crossers since its implementation in the spring. Since the announcement, the administration has been under intense pressure from Democrats and members of the media to reverse its decision to halt family separations, arguing that the policy is inhumane and that children should not be separated from their families at the border. On Thursday, President Trump stated that he does not believe that the policy should be reversed, prompting another wave of criticism from Democrats and the media. “It’s very, very important,” Trump told reporters at the White House. “I didn’t like the sight or the feeling of families being separated.” Trump continued: We want to take people out, because we’re not supposed to have people coming in and separating families. They shouldn’t be doing that. We want to have the families stay together. It’s very important to me.
